Why gentle?
Our media and political class seem intent ensuring that the mere suspicion of criminality or the existence of a criminal record are de facto justification for arrest without warrants, denying due process, and even summary execution by govt forces.
This idea is literally monstrous, antisocial, and tyrannical, much like the police impunity it works to protect.
Instead of being gentle, slap the living fuck out of people until they think correctly about it.

@theleftistlawyer unfortunately from abroad it seems that the majority of US citizens have long stopped separating reality from fiction and therefore in their minds Judge Dredd probably set a legal precedent circa 1980.

Normally, I perman-block anyone who talks like this, because I no longer tolerate such destructively corrosive talk. But I get the feeling you're just being careless, so in your case it's just a temporary mute. But try to be better.

1 there's a material difference between an accusation and an execution.
2. for it to be slander, the accusation needs to be false.
Anyway, anything goes in the us these days, so you might still be right for all I know.

@wesdym When I see someone talking about elections or impeachment as a useful tool it tells me that they do not understand the scope of the problem.
That's not cynicism.
Impeachment failed twice because the republican party won't voluntarily give up power. The mid-terms only have power if elections are free, fair and binding.
You can hope for those things, but hope is not a plan.
Today the only viable tool for a peaceful resolution the crisis is economically disruptive direct action.
