#QuestionOfTheDay what are two separate works that share surprising similarities, this can be in message, story structure, plot, characters, themes, etc
This question excludes works that are based on, adapted, or inspired by one or the other (i.e. the magnificent 7 and the 7 samurai don't count, or any character based on Sherlock Holmes sharing similarities with Sherlock Holmes). I want people to think of works that one would seemingly think are not similar but have similarities.

@ami_angelwings The Asterisk War and Chivalry of a Failed Knight both premiered their anime series in the same season (fall 2015) and their very similar premises (magical battle school harems with red-haired tsundere lead heroines, among other similarities) apparently led many to compare them.
In a similar vein, I find it interesting that Cross Ange and Yona of the Dawn came out at the same time too (fall 2014). Both are two-cour anime series about princesses who basically lose everything at the beginning of the story. These stories diverge quickly though, in both tone and concept.
