Just a reminder that Wikipedia is the only remaining reliable source of information that right wing billionaires can't control. (Although they'll never stop trying.) Please donate to them whenever you can. Even a little bit helps. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page [contains quote post or other embedded content]
Bluesky Social (bsky.app)
In less than 24 hours, the post had been shared more than a thousand times. Do we really want to keep our own bubble in the #Fediverse? I know about the bridge, but that's not enough.
Yes, #Bluesky also has several problems. But the numbers don't lie; Bluesky is doing a better job of providing an alternative to the dangerous far-right tool still used by millions: #X.
Are there people here who acknowledge that? I'd like to hear your perspective on how your network reacts when you talk about it here.
P. S. I cannot forget to mention the weak positioning of the @wikimediafoundation in terms of its social media use. (Cc @eloquence )

@everton137 @wikimediafoundation
For the record, I think it absolutely makes sense for Wikimedia and other nonprofits to be present on Bluesky at this time, despite its structural failings. And I'm glad Wikimedia stopped posting on X a while ago.
But it would also be great to see Wikimedia, Mozilla, and other technical nonprofits make a serious commitment to a different future for social media, for which the fediverse structurally seems like the best bet.
