Hex Kit is good, and they have/sell add-on tile sets.

I also like Wonderdraft, which is also a one-time purchase.

@risa I've used HexKit in the past; it was included in one of the huge itch.io charity bundles so you may already have it!

@risa Worldographer. I've known Joe, the programmer, for almost 15 years now. It started as Hexographer and has grown.

#Inkscape is free vector-based graphics software, and it has a hex grid extension (or possibly several).

It has something of a learning curve and isn't a dedicated cartography tool - but it's flexibility can't be beat.

Oh, and Inkscape can be used for other types of mapping as well - here is a map I drew:

Slowly adding minor geographical details to the map as I shift content from my old version of the setting to the new one and figure out how the locations fit into the new geography. #cartography #mapmaking #ttrpg #Urbis #dnd

@risa @Tim_Eagon there’s a big #HumbleBundle for maps up now. Haven’t used the platform myself, but I imagine it should do hexes https://www.humblebundle.com/software/map-making-mega-bundle-software-encore-2025

I don't believe you need an extension for hex grids, there's an isometric grid you can add which is effectively a hex grid with extra lines.

Yeah, but that extension gives you a _numbered_ hex grid, just like #Traveller players would want it! 😉

@doctormo i don't necessarily need numbers, but all of this is good to know ^^
