My 2nd edition AD&D game last night:'nTrapped in the Temple of Elemental Evil@Taskerland I say give running it a shot, if you ever get the chance!

My 2nd edition AD&D game last night:'nTrapped in the Temple of Elemental Evil@Taskerland It was an ambitious project when it came out and satisfied the playstyle of the time. There's a lot in it and with all the moving parts (and hand off to Mentzer to work on it from Gygax's notes), that created some consistency issues. But, they were easy to fix as a DM, really. It's my favorite adventure to run.
It starts small and unassuming for the players, but builds to a powerful challenge that can impact the entire area with a lot of toys for DM's to play with in the background.

My 2nd edition AD&D game last night:'nTrapped in the Temple of Elemental Evil@Taskerland I don't know (or really care, honestly) what their reputations are these days, but I find them each to be fantastic. Temple is a dungeon crawl, but there's a lot for a creative DM to play with when flashing it out. I have run it many times. The time before now ended in a TPK after 2 and a half years of playing.

As for Slave Lords, I played it once in the 80's but have yet to run it. I enjoy what I've read so far and the design seems like it would appeal to today's players more.

My 2nd edition AD&D game last night:'nTrapped in the Temple of Elemental Evil@Taskerland Ouch, that's a bummer. I was thinking they might be too high level for it, but as I read it, I think it will be tough. I'm not hoping for a tpk, though! They still have the climax of Temple to go through! Then on to the giants, drow, and maybe Queen modules

My claim's adjuster: To get your settlement money, you must mail us a signed copy of this form.'nMe: Can you send me a copy of the form or tell me how to get one?'nCA: No...Tootles, I'm off for Thanksgiving now@Tim_Eagon That's about when I'd lose it, too. Insurance is such a scam, honestly. I truly wish you the best of luck!

My 2nd edition AD&D game last night:'nTrapped in the Temple of Elemental EvilI've been planting the Slave Lords since the beginning of Temple. In fact, their very first adventure was breaking up a small operation run by two of the main slavers. In addition, the thief's dad is one of the high council members. The payoff is going to be fantastic.

My 2nd edition AD&D game last night:'nTrapped in the Temple of Elemental EvilUpdate!
My players: Let's lay low for a bit.
Me: Well, there is this wedding invitation sent to the bard by his love interest. It's just beyond the Gnarley Woods along the Wild Coast...
Them: Yeah, let's go there, maybe have a little side adventure, and then come back to the Temple.
Me: Sure thing!
Also me:

Ugh, I wish my claims adjuster would just send me the right form!@Tim_Eagon I bet they're trying to push the payout to next year.

My 2nd edition AD&D game last night:'nTrapped in the Temple of Elemental EvilMy 2nd edition AD&D game last night:
Trapped in the Temple of Elemental Evil!
Surrender to a demi god
Trapped again in a place of fire!
Miracle magic item use!
Free and safe at home (a ship in Nulb)?
Home is burning and dropped in the water!
Village burned and support forces slain!
Stored valuables and powerful magic items missing!
Evaluated and swore vengeance!
Snuck into Hommlet
Plans begin. Lay low? Return to the Temple? Find a new approach? The players must decide for next time! -
To think, this was less than 20 years after Jefferson Airplane's heyday.@Tim_Eagon Still better than anything being churned out on pop radio today. And they were actually talented. Maybe stars are talented today, but we'll never know thanks to auto-tuned tracks (not even albums anymore) and lip-synced "performances".

Here's my all time favorite monster from the 1st Edition Fiend Folio.@Tim_Eagon @deidungeon @Da_Gut This is true throughout 5e.

I haven't listened to or watched #CriticalRole for a while, but I still have an interest in what's happening.@Tim_Eagon @Craig I didn't watch much of Campaign 3 due to life being busy, and I was excited for this one, but after seeing the character introductions, I already felt behind and completely lost interest. It made me feel that the campaign was going to be less about heroes doing heroic things and more a long journey forward to discover what happened in their back stories.

I saw someone ask a similar question somewheres else and it left me wondering about the 5e D&D fans on the Fediverse...Which version do you play?@Tim_Eagon only the 2014 edition, and once I complete my one remaining campaign using them, I will be moving exclusively to older editions or other games. I haven't bought any of the new books and don't plan on doing so.

25 Years Ago: Player's Handbook 3e was released.@FRWiki The last edition (well, 3.5) I'm willing to consider starting a new campaign for.

D&D is not a board game.@tabletopgamingdeals I own three versions of the Dungeon! board game. I own the old Dragonlance board game. I've played Lords of Waterdeep. They are all board games and are not D&D to me.
Just like Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 - 3, and Eye of the Beholder are not D&D to me.
These are all games (board and video, respectively) that are based on D&D.
All of them are fun, but none of them can touch the actual D&D experience. In my opinion, anyway. Others will vary and that's okay!

#DnD advice: If your game deviates from established Forgotten Realms canon in the slightest, your Player's Handbook will stop working.@Nat1Advice This feeling is the very feeling that prevented me from fully embracing the Realms.
Greyhawk felt like a world someone had created for me to play in.
The Forgotten Realms felt like I was trying to play in someone else's world.

My 16-year old nephew took a look at my CD collection last night and called it "old people music." It hurt guys, it hurt a lot...@Tim_Eagon How did he take being kicked out of the family?
