I was reading an article in today's Washington Post about how analytics, and then optimization based on those analytics, has hurt the on-the-field/court product in MLB and the NBA, and holy crap, I felt like I was reading about D&D optimization!Tim_Eagon As a data scientist, I can confirm that it’s ruined a lot of other things, too.
The thoughtless drive towards optimization has also made the major Pathfinder 2 online communities absolutely intolerable, too. The worst part being that most folks in them don’t realize they are power gaming, because it looks different in that game, and so present an incredibly skewed (and aliento me) version of the game to the world with a total lack of self-awareness.
At least 3e/5e power gamers know they have no chill.
