Regarding #Attie over at #Bluesky :
Pretty much all social media algorithms at commercial platforms were a major factor of #Enshittification .
Why should Attie be any different? The underlying motivations of Enshittification haven't changed, after all.

@juergen_hubert Because unlike all the other algorithms at the commercial platforms, it's meant to let you build exactly the kind of algorithm you want. Other platforms just decide what's good for you without letting you even influence it usually.

So is the code open and transparent? Could we examine how exactly the algorithm makes its choices?

@juergen_hubert Not sure, they just announced it, and it's US & Canada only for now for some legal reasons, so I haven't even tried it

Well, we shall see, but I have to admit that my expectations are exceedingly low.
Tech companies have promised us a _lot_ of things. But as soon as they have a captive user base, things inevitably get worse.

BlueSky is still very much in the first stage of the enshitification cycle, namely: being good to their users. But the business model for commercial social media platforms is well established now, and it involves locking users in and then abusing them at a rate slowly enough that offboarding still feels like it’s not worth it.
People embracing a tool that has been used to openly manipulate them in the past because this time it will be different is a story of abuse that plays out over and over again until the victim is buried in a shallow grave.
