Nice, I’m making and canning some this weekend. Our apple trees are crazy fruitful this year.

I love Apple Butter!! Apples were on sale for $2 a bag last week so I got extra and made apple butter out of a bag. I use a crock pot. 1 bag of apples peeled, cored, and rough chunked with some brown and white sugar, cinnamon, and touch of salt. Cook for 10 hours.

Apple butter? Seems interesting, what is the difference between that and Apple jam?

Apple butter is basically spiced applesauce that is cooked down more with a looser texture. Apple jam is going to be a lot stiffer in texture and typically isn’t as spiced if at all in my experience. Honestly I’d still call what OP made Apple butter by the look of it

$2 a bag? Bargain! 10 hours though? 😩 I’m guessing this is by slow cooking. Would there be a quicker way to make these from stove?

It’s the primary usage of my slow cooker 😄 I’m not sure of other techniques. But I love just tossing them in on a day I’m doing house or yard projects, stirring occasionally and really making the house smell great.

I use this recipe but 1/2 it for a 3lbs bag of apples.

The consistency of your apple butter is what I’m aiming for; it looks perfect.

Hats off to you for reusing a jar! 👍🏼

I’m sure it does! Little trick that I use is after I’ve mashed down the cooked apples and put the pot in the oven I’ll put a wooden spoon just inside the oven door so the moisture can escape

We got a basket of apples for free and made apple sauce (which we put in the freezer), and apple jam (we had a leftover pack of preservation sugar that needed to get used).
