@pteryx People stopped protesting so MS never removed it. The silver lining is that it has MONSTROUS hardware requirements, so it only activates if your machine is super good and super expensive.

...OK, does anyone know the *current* status of the whole automated-screenshot-collection thing Windows 11 was so infamously doing is? -
Noticing an OSR personality accusing me of downplaying the innovations of the OSR and presenting many of the scene's innovations as my own.@Taskerland Isn't the whole point of the OSR to bring back all old stuff? Isn't "innovations in OSR" an oxymoron?

I've been talking a bit about how the hobby seems to have settled into the view that not playing games-as-intended is mildly transgressive.@Taskerland Your corner of the woods sounds perplexing. Here, I have never once seen a gaming table that actually plays a game as intended (let alone R.A.W). No in all my decades in the hobby.
-
So, it occurs to me what Elon Musk's unique damage is (over and above the psychological issues inherent in all billionaires).@pteryx He was the young dweeb who was never invited to the gaming tables because he was too much of a basket case even for the roleplayers (and I'm talking about times when roleplayers were mocked as freaks EVEN AMONG OTHER NERDS, thus the subculture was comprised of the rejects' rejects).

This was a good piece about adventures that leave space for GMs to make their own creative decisions: https://bluemountain.bearblog.dev/chew-your-own-damn-food/@Taskerland History moves in cycles and gaming is not the exception (hell, someone recently re-invented Marauder 2107).

This was a good piece about adventures that leave space for GMs to make their own creative decisions: https://bluemountain.bearblog.dev/chew-your-own-damn-food/@SJohnRoss @Taskerland The thing is, the target demo of people who consume canned adventures are either fans of railroading or people who don't mind them. High-trust GMs using canned goods are the exception, not the norm.

A sale on colossal minis has given me a dangerous idea.@Nat1Advice That's gonna be my next adventure, THANKS!

It is raining and my cat wants to go outside but does not like going outside in the rain.@Taskerland Your cat wants to talk to the manager of rain!

Really not surprised by this morning's news: The vibes on Jay Dragon have always been absolutely rancid.@Taskerland The hobby has always been embraced by vulnerable sectors. Even after the triumph of the nerds past the aughts, it was more likely to be embraced by the MORE vulnerable sectors of the geek population than not. All it takes is one narcissist asshole.

https://dragonlancenexus.com/jean-rabe-placed-in-hospice/@Tim_Eagon Meanwhile, Wizards of the Coast keeps making the big bucks selling dnd coloring books.

I think we need to start checking the batteries in the carbon monoxide detectors at rpg conventions.@Taskerland What can I say? Some people are oblivious to the concept of "desktop run." I sure didn't need to see the "big picture" to know V5 not granting any real character advancement other than diablerie was unplayable for me (or ANYONE who doesn't want their game to be strictly about a bunch of diablerists).
-
I keep seeing trailers for a video game that describe it as "psychological horror" but the trailer is full of monsters.@Taskerland Eh, media literacy is not people's forte as an average. I mean, we have TTRPG writers who use words as "cinematic noir" in the same sentence.

Barbara wants to eat my arm.@DejahEntendu I hail the eater of arms!
-
my idea to convert the first final fantasy game into a ttrpg campaign has taken on a whole new form and i'm excited for it ^^@risa And then see your players turn it into 8-bit Theatre almost immediately.

I always feel like I'm going to black out from boredom when rules-discussions get into stuff like 'I've got a dagger... that's faster than a longsword'.'nHowever, according to Vampire: Revised, you need a Humanity of 8 in order to have sex.@Taskerland Well, he used to be friends with alt-righter and notorious ethno nationalist Reinhaggen so, might as well?

Some thoughts on the place of criticism in the world of #ttrpg and why I have decided to stop reviewing other people's games.'nhttps://tasker.land/2025/11/13/on-criticism-and-ttrpgs/@Taskerland Recharge your batteries, catch up on all the nothing you haven't been doing for a while now, let Calvin be your spirit guide.

I remember Trump once saying that he could gun someone down in the street in broad daylight and get away with it.@Taskerland Pathfinder is still alive and well...
-
How do you discourage your players from trying to rob EVERYTHING?@IcarusGames Are they in a super rich, post-scarcity world where anyone and their brother can afford magic for their business? Cool! At least that world is super civilized and no kingdoms can be invaded by wildlife. I mean, if every store can afford wards, every city's walls must have more wards than you can shake a stick at! (and let's not even think of their guards).
...granted, I pity the PCs. Nothing for them to do unless the game is a dungeonpunk or something.

When it comes to TTRPG stuff, I have reached the point where I feel like some ancient fish clinging to life in a tidal pool.'nEvery week, more of the water from the pool evaporates and the tide retreats further down the beach.@Taskerland We got to move with the cheese, which is rarely the mainstream cheese.
And if no commercially available cheese fills us, then we churn our own (as I'm doing now).

PSA: If you use D&D Beyond, you have 30 days to opt out of their new binding arbitration clause.'nIf you don't, you may lose your right to join a class-action lawsuit.@geeknative People who keep tossing their money at WotC deserve whatever's coming at them.
