The last year has been so much more difficult than I was prepared for. Just over a year ago I started to experience weird sensations in my chest and abdomen that, eventually had me going to the emergency room. At one point I thought it was a heart attack, at another point doctors suspected gallbladder issues, and at yet another ulcers.

No one ever did figure out exactly what it was. Eventually, it faded into the background as other issues demanded my attention: Neck issues, nerve issues in my arm, a slipped disc in my back, and a whole year of intense anxiety around it all.

Months of physiotherapy to assess and treat thoracic outlet syndrome, and then the slipped disc, which I am still rehabbing 6 or 7 months later. My grandmother rapidly declining and missing my wedding. Getting laid off from my job. And now my therapist is raising flags around autistic burnout.

I'd say it's been a roller coaster, but the downward trajectory on those is supposed to be the fun part!

I was disappointed that Canada lost the gold medal game, but I had a lot of respect for Team USA for honouring Johnny Gaudreau on the ice like that.

Watching them party with Kash Patel, and draping a gold medal aroumd his neck, though...

Are they? I thought most 2e APs weren't. I only have a couple of them, though, and haven't actually run them.

Not without a plan, no. The execuitive controls the party infrastructure. They can undermine efforts for reform better than reformers can inact change, if they so wish. And they are elected themselves, in separate elections. The party execuitive and the party's parliamentary leadership are different, and not inherently aligned.

Yup. The calls for citizens to avoid violence is a call for them to not defend themselves. The schoolyard bullies with assault rifles and tactical gear are going to get bored and start mowing down crowds sooner or later. They've already locked in their pretense by labeling anyone who protests them "domestic terrorists".

Rolling over and letting them do it to their neighbours isn't going to stop them from doing it to everybody. It's going to be a blood bath either way.

A very difficult year for me is coming to a close. Yet at the same time, one of the best years of my life (so far) has also ended. What a strange 12 months its been.

A year ago I started to feel pains and burning in my stomach that nothing seemed to help. They occurred only at night, and they prevented me from sleeping for days at a time. Eventually, they grew into panic attacks, and I had multiple ER trips, terrified I was dying. EKGs, ultrasound scans, CT scans, and even an MRI found nothing. I was diagonsed with acid reflux, put on proton pump inhibitors, and sent on my way.

The PPI caused extreme anxiety, and I made several more ER trips because of them before taking myself off of them.

Then, I got a slipped disk in my lower back. The pain was enough that I struggled to walk. I spent months waddling around, trying to get through my days, and scared shitless that I was just falling apart. That I'd absolutely destroyed my body through neglect.

I also learned that I was probably autistic, and that I was suffering from complext PTSD due to decades of emotional abuse from peers and partners. I took neither of these revelations especially well.

And finally, to cllose it all out, I got laid off from my job of five years as an applied data scientist.

But I also got married this year, something that I long ago thought would never happen. I got a family doctor this year, and got the support I needed to figure out my medical issues. He put me on SSRIs, and that has helped more than I could ever imagine in feeling like myself again.

I reconnected with friends, and found an incredible sense of community among former colleagues. I met my physiotherapist, who has been absolutely incredible, and has helped me recover from my back injury, and has given me the tools to recognize what is injury and damage, and what is just tightness and exhaustion.

There is much from this year that I never want to relive, but there is so much that I never want to let go of, too.

Onward and upward.

It's a great and nobel goal, but party brass has been working to make and keep the party playing status quo political games for so long, it's hard to believe it can be brought back to being a movement-based entity again. How do you hope to make it something that actually supporters social progress movements, and not just the least-bad voting choice?

So much of this is almost certainly sign-ups from the official mobile app, and the whole "choosing a server, or understanding even slightly what the fediverse even is is too complicated!" thing.

Unfortunately, centralization happens because people don't actually care about centralization, or how that enables bad actors to control them. They happily trade liberty for convenience.
