“I mean, d’you know what eternity is? There’s this big mountain, see, a mile high, at the end of the universe, and once every thousand years there’s this little bird-” -“What little bird?” said Aziraphale suspiciously. -“This little bird I’m talking about. And every thousand years-” -“The same bird every thousand years?” -Crowley hesitated. “Yeah,” he said. -“Bloody ancient bird, then.” -“Okay. And every thousand years this bird flies-” -“-limps-” -“-flies all the way to this mountain and sharpens its beak-” -“Hold on. You can’t do that. Between here and the end of the universe there’s loads of-” The angel waved a hand expansively, if a little unsteadily. “Loads of buggerall, dear boy.” -“But it gets there anyway,” Crowley persevered. -“How?” -“It doesn’t matter!” -“It could use a space ship,” said the angel. Crowley subsided a bit. “Yeah,” he said. “If you like. Anyway, this bird-” -“Only it is the end of the universe we’re talking about,” said Aziraphale. “So it’d have to be one of those space ships where your descendants are the ones who get out at the other end. You have to tell your descendants, you say, When you get to the Mountain, you’ve got to-” He hesitated. “What have they got to do?” -“Sharpen its beak on the mountain,” said Crowley. “And then it flies back-” -“-in the space ship-” -“And after a thousand years it goes and does it all again,” said Crowley quickly. There was a moment of drunken silence. -“Seems a lot of effort just to sharpen a beak,” mused Aziraphale. -“Listen,” said Crowley urgently, “the point is that when the bird has worn the mountain down to nothing, right, then-” Aziraphale opened his mouth. Crowley just knew he was going to make some point about the relative hardness of birds’ beaks and granite mountains, and plunged on quickly. -“-then you still won’t have finished watching The Sound of Music.” Aziraphale froze. -“And you’ll enjoy it,” Crowley said relentlessly. “You really will.” -“My dear boy-” -“You won’t have a choice.” -“Listen-” -“Heaven has no taste.” -“Now-” -“And not one single sushi restaurant.” A look of pain crossed the angel’s suddenly very serious face.

I was thinking this was similar to Cohen the Barbarian from Discworld.

Nhim is the artist. The character is Mimi. They’re all standalone comics, but there’s a bunch with Mimi. All have the same crazy goblin energy to them.

I loved 4e combat too. EOT and Scene abilities make combat much more fun and dynamic IMO It definitely can get bogged down in complexity, but I think it’s usually worth it, and over time, you and your players can get used to it, and start picking up the pace. Pokemon Tabletop United basically uses the same system, and it also has to contend with multiple Pokemon characters per Player character. The whole group needs to be working together to keep things moving. It’s definqtely a challenge for new players

A significant part of the culture that has formed around 5e is about “having it all”. And usually by ignoring the (admittedly weak) rules that do exist, rather than exploiting actual gaps. So, you can frankenstein together a caster that has martial proficiency in armour (or even melee weapons), with the only compromise being your capstone abilities (which often are very expendable). And then you can metagame away your shitty social abilities by “roleplaying”. I’m not going to defend 5e – I genuinely think it’s a poorly made game, and place the blame for that entirely on the execuitives – but the reason why so many people refuse to try something else is because they like the exploits that they believe exist, even though they are totally socially constructed.

Love this. WoD isn’t about balance, it’s about storytelling. Were the Watchmen balanced? No. Was the storytelling amazing? Yes. There are tabletop games that are more focused on the mechanics, and for those balance is important. But not WoD, baby.

That is the issue and the source of my confusion. The god in question did not change the gender, it just created avatars. Those are sometimes created in a male form and sometimes in a female. But the god itself never changed gender (as far as I could find in the lore). Avatars are, as far as I know, entities that can be infused and controlled by the will of the god but it is not the god itself. Just like a human that controls a character in a video game, those characters are the avatars of the player but not the player himself.
