Thanks for responding and for taking a thoughtful approach with this. I would very much like the fediverse to eventually replace corporate social media, so it’s good to see folks working on governance and policy with an eye to the future. And obviously I get that this can take time, especially when people are doing so on a volunteer basis. I’d suggest, though, asking community members for suggestions & feedback early in the process, and also to seek out existing work on the topic of online community safety & governance, especially by women, BIPOC and queer folks, if you haven’t already. When I had looked through the mod log recently, there was also a case where a post from the Toronto Sun (to be clear, fuck the Toronto Sun) had been taken down with the reason being something like “American owned propaganda newspaper” and then reinstated. There at least need to be some clear guidelines around what can be posted, it can’t just be completely made up on the fly. That’s true, and i’m not trying to say that Ubisoft is a good actor here, I just think that the example of BattleCore Arena quite unusual and ironic here. That being said, that’s probably because the game did not receive a lot of attention from the higher ups at Ubisoft, so the devs could make decisions that are respectful towards the players.

And you absolutely could not avoid a fight and just walk away from the situation with plausible deniability because you “only insulted them”. If you offend someone so hard that there’s a possibility of physical harm and/or death from it, and that person survives that insult, I’m quite sure most people wouldn’t just let that slide.

If you pick hardware/features from company that don’t support your OS of choice, I don’t see this to happened, not just in future, but ever. Just picture someone buying software/hardware for Sony’s FreeBSD (PlayStation) and expecting it to work on Windows: this doesn’t make any sense. Linux is an insane exception to this because it’s the Linux community of engineers who reverse engineered. It’s not about wait for “Linux has to be ready”, but be sure the money you thrown at your hardware are well spent. If AMD company suddenly shut down, your hardware on Windows is just an unsecured brick which in few years become useless. On Linux it will be always supported, bug fixed and updated thanks to OpenSource drivers.
