When you’re a social media company, fascists are good for business, and active moderation is bad for it. So long as people keep seeking their community from profit-seeking entities, they’re going to keep running into the Trumps and Elons of the world.
@BlumeEvolution Ich habe nach Musks Übernahme von Twitter mein Konto auf #Mastodon erstellt. Schon die lokale Instanz für Freiburg war eine sehr positive Überraschung. Die hat die große Welt des #Fediverse gleich viel greifbarer für mich gemacht und mir durch die vielen ortsnahen Beiträge den Einstieg sehr erleichtert. Über die Zeit habe ich das Modell immer mehr zu schätzen gelernt, auch weil durch die Dezentralität Unstimmigkeiten nicht über Wohl und Wehe des ganzen Verbundes entscheiden. Im Gegenteil führt die Kreativität in diesem bunten Ökosystem eher zu Bereicherungen statt Einschränkungen. Und weil in diesem Ökosystem vor allem meine eigenen Entscheidungen dazu führen, wie es sich für mich entwickelt, bin ich hier aktiver als in jedem anderen Sozialen Netzwerk.

@everton137 @wikimediafoundation For the record, I think it absolutely makes sense for Wikimedia and other nonprofits to be present on Bluesky at this time, despite its structural failings. And I'm glad Wikimedia stopped posting on X a while ago.But it would also be great to see Wikimedia, Mozilla, and other technical nonprofits make a serious commitment to a different future for social media, for which the fediverse structurally seems like the best bet.
